TOUR PROGRAM

Day 1

Arkhangelsk sightseeing tour takes you through the central part of the city with major highlights of Arkhangelsk as well as historical monuments in the old part of town.

Start your excursion at Pur-Navolok Cape, the site where the city was founded in 1584. Admire a unique example of Russian architecture of the XVII century - the old stone Merchant Yard (Gostiny Dvor) hosting museum exhibition nowadays. Visit monuments to Peter the Great, and Arctic Convoys followed by Eternal flame and Monument to a Seal. Enjoy views of the Northern Dvina.

Visit shipyard located on Solombala Island where a real wooden vessel called Pomorskiy Koch is being built.

Enjoy your lunch in one of the restaurants in the city center. Russian Northern cuisine.

Continue your city tour with a walking along a Heritage street – Chumbarovka which features authentic and reconstructed wooden houses of local merchants from the past from different parts of the city.

Enjoy a visit to the Northern Maritime Museum. Learn about local seafaring development and see exhibits including ship models, a model of a lighthouse, maps, navigational instruments, photographs and personal belongings. You will also hear of the Pomors, hunters and fishers who settled in this northern region of Russia.

Day 2

Breakfast

Guided tour to the village Kholmogory (95 km) followed by transfer to the village Lomonosovo by ferry.

Visit to Lomonosov museum and bone carving training school.

After lunch and river crossing transfer visit to the architecture complex of the former bishops; court, Kholmogory village embankment, memorable cross followed by visit to the village Matigory and its Ascension church.

Transfer to the hotel in Arkhangelsk.

Day 3

Breakfast

Bus excursion to the open-air museum of wooden architecture “Malye Korely”.

Located amidst the hills in one of the most picturesque places on the outskirts of Arkhangelsk, Malye Korely is the largest open-air museum of its kind in Russia. The Museum is home to many wooden buildings such as homes, churches, barns and windmills collected from different parts of the region, typical examples of how things used to be. Houses built by hand with traditional tools such as axes in the XVIII and XIX centuries still stand strong for you to enjoy viewing today. Time permitting, there should also be some free time to explore further at your leisure and buy local souvenirs before re-joining your coach for the return drive to the city center.

On the way back visit museum of Arkhangelsk Algal Plant followed by tasting the products in the branded shop.

Free time in the city center or transfer to the airport or railway station.
